Carafate 1gm

Carafate is a gastric protective agent. It works by forming a protective layer on the ulcer to serve as a barrier against acid, bile salts, and enzymes in the stomach. Carafate is a is a gastric protective medicine successfully used for treatment and prevention of ulcers. Sometimes it may also be prescribed for other purposes.

How to Take:
We advise you to take Carafate as perscribed by your doctor, orally, on an empty stomach. Take Carafate at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.
Avoid taking antacid for minimum 30 minutes before or after intake of Carafate.
Do not take Carafate with other medicines simultaneousely. Consult your doctor about the possibility of taking Carfate with other medicines.
Being a gastric protective, Carfate forms a protective layer on the ulcer and serves as a barrier against acid, bile salts, and enzymes in the stomach. That is why it is not recommended to take other medicines when you take Carfate – it can lessen their action.

Missed Dose:
If you miss a dose of Carafate, use it as soon as possible. However if it is too late (it is already time for the next dose), skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Storage:
Store Carafate at room temperature in a tightly closed container away from heat, moisture and direct sun light. Brief periods at temperatures of 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) are permitted. Do not give Carfate to children without doctor’s advice.

Safety Information:
Do not use Carafate if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Carafate
• you are pregnant
• you are breast feeding (Carafate is found un breast milk)
• you are under 12 years of age
• you take other medicines containing aluminum (Carafate has aluminum in it)
• If you are taking Carafate, be extremely attentive while performing any kind of unsafe activity, because it can cause dizziness.

Side Effects
The common side effects that can appear when you take Carafate are:

• dizziness;
• constipation;
• feeling of a whirling motion;
• allergic reactions (difficulty breathing; hives; rash; itching; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).
