Seroquel 300 mg

Seroquel (Quetiapine) is used to treat several symptoms of schizophrenia.  Seroquel (quetiapine) is an antipsychotic medication. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain.

Use:
Seroquel is used to treat schizophrenia in adults and children who are at least 13 years old. It is used to treat bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults and children who are at least 10 years old. Seroquel is also used together with antidepressant medications to treat major depressive disorder in adults.

How Does It Work:
Seroquel belongs to a group of medications called atypical (or second-generation) antipsychotic medications. It is not entirely known how Seroquel works in the treatment of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. However, it is known that the medication blocks or lessens the effects of several chemicals in the brain. These chemicals (such as dopamine and serotonin) may be elevated in people with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression).

How to Take:
Seroquel comes in tablet form. It is usually taken by mouth one to three times a day. If you are taking the medication once a day, it is usually best to take it at bedtime. You can take the medication with or without food. If it bothers your stomach, try taking it with food. It should be taken at the same time(s) each day to maintain even levels in your blood. For the drug to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. The medication will not work if you stop taking it.

Dosage:
The dosage that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

• The medical condition being treated
• The severity of your condition
• Other medical conditions you may have
• Other medications you may be currently taking.

As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Side Effects:
As with any medicine, side effects are possible. However, not everyone who takes it will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate the drug quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
Common side effects include, but are not limited to:

• Dry mouth
• Drowsiness
• Headaches
• Agitation.
